Acupuncture Point Locations

In traditional Chinese Medicine, there are more than four hundred acupuncture points that are described. These points are certain spots in our bodies that have a direct line to problems areas in the body. These spots or points are located in one of the main meridians of the body. Meridians are pathways which run throughout the body that, according to traditional Chinese medicine, transport chi (Qi) or life energy.

There are twenty recognized meridians (cutaneous and sub-cutaneous in nature) but there are 12 major meridians or primary meridians as they are called and they are associated with internal organs and are bilateral. The 12 primary meridians are:

  • Lung
  • Large Intestine
  • Stomach
  • Spleen
  • Heart
  • Small Intestine
  • Bladder
  • Kidney
  • Pericardium
  • Triple Energizer
  • Gallbladder
  • Liver

The remaining eight meridians encircle the waist and run along the midline of the body. These meridians also contain sub-points near them that surround the body and affect the surrounding tissues. In order to fully understand these points, you must go for an in-depth study and have an Acupuncture Chart to familiarize with. Each practitioner must fully understand each points before proceeding further.
